NEW, ALARMING DEVELOPMENT IN WAR ON TERROR--
SYRIA TESTS CHEMICAL WEAPONS ON SUDAN POPULATION

The war on terror has taken a new and alarming turn as pro-terror Syria tests chemical weapons against a nearly helpless population of Darfur, the war-ravaged western region in the African nation of Sudan.

The Islamic fundamentalist government of Sudan employed Syrian chemical warfare experts and equipment to launch a chemical attack, according to a highly respected German news source, citing intelligence services reports and an Arab Internet site.

Syria is recognized as a supporter of terror networks, and long suspected of developing and trafficking in weapons of mass destruction.

The chemical attack occurred after a May 2004 meeting of Syrian and Sudanese officials, reported the German news daily Die Welt. The Sudanese had also concluded a truce with Christian and animist (pagan) rebels operating in Darfur.

Five airliners from Syrian Arab Airlines flew chemical weapons experts and their equipment to the Sudanese capital of Khartoum. Savage chemical attacks soon followed the arrival of the Syrians.

By June, "many dozens" of bodies with "strange wounds" from the Dafur region began to appear in Khartoum's Al-Fashr Hospital, Die Welt stated.

Sudanese armed forces quickly sealed off the wing of the hospital where the wounded individuals were located. The only personnel allowed to enter the hospital wing were unidentified and previously unknown Syrian physicians. The bodies of the victims were later taken away by the Sudanese.

Opponents of President/dictator Bashar al-Assad have also asserted that Syria developed its chemical weapons expertise by experimenting on prisoners.

ALARMING QUESTIONS

Chemical attacks violate international law, as does the unauthorized development and export of weapons of mass destruction, including chemical weapons.

The Darfur rebels are no threat to Syria, and the civilian inhabitants of Darfur are, in fact, a dispossessed, dying population.

Secretary of State Collin Powell has already accused Sudan of genocide against the Christian and animist inhabitants of Darfur. The UN has expressed its dismay over Sudan's destruction of Darfur. Sanctions are discussed, but no other action is contemplated. At least 50,000 of the people of Dafur have died to date.

The alarming question arises -- who is the real target of Syria's chemical weapons?

There is only one common enemy of the Islamic fundamentalist government of Sudan and the Socialist government of Syria. Sudan's brand of Islam supports terror networks which have attacked the U.S. Syria has a long anti-American record, first as an ally of the Soviet Union and then as a close friend of Russia and China. Syria also is cooperating on weapons development with the Stalinist state of North Korea.

Syria has aided the terror movement in post-Saddam Iraq, while its President has said that he doubts the existence of the Al-Qaeda terror network.

The chemical horror wreaked upon Darfur may well be a dress rehearsal for a sophisticated chemical terror assault on the United States.
